Structural panel markets faded. Action
in OSB markets varied from region to region and mill to mill. Phone
activity overall was busier than in previous weeks, but order placement
remained hit and miss. "Sloppy" and "ugly" were common descriptions of
the market among Southern Pine plywood traders. Prices fell unevenly,
with some blocks selling at huge discounts. Facing slow sales and
pressure from other structural panel markets, western Fir plywood
producers cut prices of sheathing Wednesday to spur sales and extend
order files as far as the week of August 23.
